McTear's had two antique military pieces up for grabs. I fired off some really specific questions about whether everything was included. They pointed me to the website listing, which claimed they were complete. I placed my bid and ended up winning. After a long 380-mile trek to collect them—since shipping was a no-go due to their weight—I got home only to discover that crucial parts were missing. McTear's told me I needed to send them back to get my money back. I wasn't having it, so they had to sort out a pickup at their cost. Eventually, I got my refund. I also asked for compensation for my lost time and expenses, but that was a hard no. Now, those items are back on the market with all the details that should’ve been shared with me from the start! I could take them to court under the 1979 Sale of Goods Act, but honestly, why bother? My tip: steer clear of buying anything from this place unless you’ve checked it out in person. The person who made those misleading claims? They ought to be demoted to cleaning duties and making tea!

Absolutely terrible. I’d never go back to them. They sold my stuff for next to nothing, and after all the fees, I ended up with hardly anything. I really should’ve just sold my things myself. Some dealer got a steal, no doubt, and they'll be raking in the cash. A buddy of mine had a similar ordeal; his items were valued at around £400 at home, but they went for just £10, and then they wanted to hit him with a £75 shipping fee. Sellers, take heed. Since I shared my story, others have also warned me about McTears.

I bought some items on Friday, and their site says the payment should hit your account within 3 days post-sale. I reached out on the fourth day, and they told me it wouldn’t be until the next Wednesday. That’s 12 days in my book! Not thrilled with this service, and I won’t be selling through them again... REALLY DISAPPOINTED.

This is my second time ordering from Mctears, and it was just as great as the first experience. The delivery was quick and the price was fair. I did spend a tad more than I wanted, but hey, that's how auctions roll. The team there is super helpful and knows their stuff.

I submitted military models and police uniforms for sale, but they were mostly shown in closed boxes and a dry cleaning bag. There was no estimate or reserve provided, and when I called for assistance, they asked me what reserve I wanted. I thought that was their responsibility! To make matters worse, my items were placed in a general Antiques and Interiors auction instead of the militaria one we had verbally agreed on. I only got three days' notice about the switch to the general sale, but I missed the email since the agreed sale was scheduled a month later. Dealers had two days to check out the items before the sale, while the public only got one day. The final price was quite low. It's really worrying that this kind of thing can happen, and McTears didn't respond to my follow-up email questioning this poor practice.

I had a couple of prints on sale that didn’t move. When I went to pick them up, one of the frames was messed up—the back was taken off, and the stuff inside was all loose. I reached out to Mctears to ask why the back was gone, but I never got a response. Really disappointing service!

I purchased some fabric from the auction house, but they wouldn’t handle the shipping and suggested some companies listed on their website. I got a quote of £95 just to send half a roll of fabric, while the item itself was only £55. I get that this is beyond the auction rooms' control, but I really wonder why they’d recommend Mailbox in the first place. I ended up choosing a different shipping service that was half the cost and also mentioned on their site. In this day and age, why can’t you hire someone to pack and ship for you? It wouldn’t be too tough to give that job to someone who needs it, instead of these companies that charge so much. Personally, I’d feel way better knowing my cash is going to someone like that rather than these overpriced firms. Colin Moran has been fantastic; he kept me updated on my delivery and charged half the price. He’s been professional, polite, and super helpful. He should definitely be at the top of your list. I’ll be reaching out to him again when I make my next purchase.

McTears failed to let me know that the artwork had some minor damage, with paint having worn off long ago. I also got the feeling later on that I forked out way too much for these two pieces.

The folks at McTears are always super helpful. Right now, I’m placing my bids online and then swinging by to pick up my items. Everything is handled in a professional manner.

I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, no way. I've had two batches that didn't sell, and even though I said I’d pick them up, they just went ahead and gave them away. They promised they wouldn’t do that. Absolutely awful service, and it feels like they just don’t care at all.
